Dusty Smith

Dr. Dusty Smith joined Sparks Orthopedics and Sports Medicine in 2018. He attended the University of South Alabama College of Medicine, completed his orthopedic surgery residency at the University of South Alabama Hospitals, and completed a combined neurosurgery and orthopedic spine surgery fellowship at the prestigious Leatherman Spine Institute in Louisville, Kentucky.

Before joining the staff of Sparks Orthopedics, Dr. Smith worked with Gadsden Orthopedics; Premier Surgical Institute and Stateline Surgery Center in Galena, Kansas; St. John’s Regional Medical Center in Joplin, Missouri; McCune Brooks Regional Hospital in Carthage, Missouri; and Mount Carmel Regional Medical Center in Pittsburgh, Kansas, as well as other respected facilities in Kentucky and Alabama.

He is a member of the North American Spine Society, the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, Louis D. Anderson Society, as well as the Alabama State Orthopedic Association.

Dr. Smith is deeply involved in research involving expandable intervertebral cage systems and currently has several medical patents for uses in spine surgery. Dr. Smith has lectured extensively during the last 20 years on minimally invasive fusion techniques and other medical orthopedic subjects.
